about me

The day I chose to stop taking the birth control pill was a turning point in my life.

I found myself in a puddle of symptoms practically overnight: migraines, cystic acne, amenorrhea, digestive symptoms, hypothyroidism, hair loss, anxiety and depression.

This woke me up.

I think for the first time in my life I actually stopped in my tracks and started to redirect my attention on myself and what I was doing.

For the next 5 years, I dedicated most of my time trying every diet I came across, functional medicine, low-toxic lifestyle changes, meditation, psychotherapy, Chinese medicine, frequency healing, inner child workshops, subconscious mindset work, etc. in order to try to feel better.

I had made progress over the years but it seemed that after each new regiment settled, I found myself back in the familiar place of digestive and hormonal symptoms; uncomfortable and discouraged from living the life I wanted to be living.

Eventually, Ayurveda came up.

A funky little word I had previously disregarded as another diet not “grand enough for me and all my intricate ailments and severity of disease."

Intrigued by its accuracy with my current symptoms, I went to the library and brought home a book on practical Ayurveda.

Almost immediately after incorporating a few of the practices, I surprisingly noticed a shift in how my digestion felt. The symptoms didn’t necessarily change but I somehow felt more at ease and in less chronic discomfort.

I continued to incorporate the practices, and to my skeptical-self’s surprise, it was the first time in 5 years that I actually felt my digestion improving consistently.

Ayurveda made me realize that I had never truly learned how to take care of my body, mind, or energy; at least not in a balanced, holistic way.

This traditional science helped me take back ownership of my health and my life, and have an understanding on how to make choices day to day that were going to support health and wellbeing. Not something that many of us are taught but something that is paramount for leading an enjoyable life.

I knew deep down that healing was possible and I am so thankful I never gave up. If you are intrigued about Ayurveda, here's a bit more information.

I believe we are meant to feel well in our body and mind and that we all take our own unique path in getting there. I hope that reading about my journey has sparked something in you that healing is indeed possible!

With love,

Maddie

a bit further into Ayurveda

WHAT IS IT?

The word Ayurveda is Sanskrit and can be translated to “the science or knowledge of living.”

Ayurveda is a holistic medical system that dates back over 5000 years ago. It provides us with foundational principles that help align our way of living with nature.

Incorporating Ayurveda into your life can result in profound healing given the body is an expression of nature and modern day living has deviated us from our natural way of living.

WHY IT'S (POWERFULLY) DIFFERENT FROM OTHER APPROACHES

It addresses the root cause of imbalance from a holistic perspective to help reverse the disease process, sustain optimal well-being, and promote longevity.

It's a full framework of practices and knowledge that work together versus piece-mealing various health practices together.

Healing protocols are customized specifically to you versus going off of general guidelines of "what's healthy."

It considers each person as their own true healer and everything else along the way as guidance.

Ayurveda promotes a sense of self-awareness and responsibility that naturally raises consciousness and therefore the ability to heal on an even deeper level.

. . .

Personally, I overlooked Ayurveda during my years of trying to feel better.

I was initially introduced to it from a Westernized perspective with mind/body-type quizzes and food lists which made it seem similar to diet regiments. I shuffled past it quickly assuming it wasn't "grand enough for me and all my intricate ailments and severity of disease."

After connecting with the traditional approach of Ayurveda, I can speak with confidence and gratitude in the healing power of this ancient science.
